Property Taxes

2017 PROPERTY TAXES DUE TUESDAY, JULY 4 BY 4:00 PM
(Office Closed Monday, July 3rd in Lieu of Canada Day)

Regular Office Hours 8:30am to 4:00pm
  • Tax notices have been mailed out as of the end of May.
  • Unpaid 2017 Property Taxes, including the unclaimed Home Owner Grant portion, are subject to penalties as follows:  5% penalty after July 4, 2017 and an additional 5% after September 1, 2017.  Unpaid Arrears & Delinquent taxes are subject to daily interest set by the Province.
  • TAX SALE - see this webpage for information.  Any property with outstanding delinquent (2015) taxes will be offered to the public at a tax sale set annually on the last Monday in September (September 25, 2017).

HOME OWNER GRANT must be claimed every year
Banks no longer accept HOG claims, therefore, the District of Highlands provides the following options:

  • ONLINE on the District's website www.highlands.ca
  • At the District Office 1980 Millstream Road (off Hanington) during office hours
  • In secure drop box in front door of the District Office (no CASH please)
  • Mailed to the full mailing address on the front of your tax notice

When visiting the District's website www.highlands.ca, click the ONLINE SERVICES button, you will find the following options and instructions:

  • CLAIMING YOUR HOG ONLINE (through District's website) 
  • VIEWING YOUR TAX ACCOUNT (you must register to safeguard your personal information) 
  • PAYING YOUR TAXES (what you will need to know to pay through YOUR Financial Institution’s website) 
  • PRE-AUTHORIZED PAYMENT PLAN  (program runs Aug 10 to May 10) 
  • VIEWING PROPERTY INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC 

Payment Options

 

  • Mail us a cheque or post-dated cheque to avoid a line up (please include roll # on cheque for reference). 
  • In person 
  • After hours:  secure drop box at front door 
  • We accept cash, cheque, debit/interact  
  • We DO NOT accept credit cards 
  • You may also pay via internet banking through YOUR financial institution’s website as:  “Highlands, Dist-Taxes” is now set up as a Payee at major banks and credit unions. 

Update Your Mailing Address


If you have moved or bought your property this year, please give the District Office a quick call at 250-474-1773 before mid-May to ensure that the District has your current mailing address. The District Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday.
